Pulmonary function tests are important tools used to assess how well the lungs are working.

One common test is spirometry, which measures how much air a person can breathe out and how quickly they can do so.

Pulmonary function tests may be used to:
• Assess breathing difficulties
• Help diagnose certain respiratory conditions
• Monitor lung function over time
• Assess response to treatment
• Evaluate lung health before certain procedures or treatments

If you experience persistent cough, wheezing or shortness of breath, your healthcare professional may recommend lung function testing as part of your assessment.
